Ugh, Google Analytics…

August 5, 2008 – 11:44 am

I don’t recall receiving an email notification to update my Google Analytics tracking code, but apparently Google stopped tracking this website’s activity back on July 7, 2008 and I only just noticed.

If you use Analytics, make sure to update your tracking codes from the older Urchin legacy scripts to the “new and improved” ones that will grant you access to “a wide range of new and exciting features as they become available!” Yay, for one month of lost site metrics.

I would complain more, but hey, it’s free.

  2. You do get a lot of info from google analytics. I find the site a pain when you initially set it up. But it gives you a lot of ridiculous information.

  3. There is a pretty sweet Wordpress plugin called Google Analyticator that sets this all up for ya. I myself haven’t checked my analytics in awhile but it’s a nice tool to have to analyze your traffic.

  4. Does the plugin bring all your Analytics data into your dashboard or do you still need to visit Analytics?

  5. Still need to visit the analytics. It just automatically puts the analytics code on every page/post of your blog.

Another nice feature is you get more accurate tracking of visitors using the plugin as it only adds the tracking code to the pages when it’s a guest viewing them. Admins it leaves the code out so your own visits don’t get tracked.

  6. Well, I put my tracking code in my site’s footer, just above the closing BODY tag, so technically it should appear on every page within this site, right?

  7. Yes, if it’s in the footer it will appear on every page as well. I just like the part where it ignores my visits.

  8. Plus if I ever mess with my footer I don’t need to worry about accidentally screwing up the code. :)

Not that I mess with my footer to often.
