My New Warhammer Online Computer!
August 1, 2008 – 9:22 amHere is my new Warhammer Online gaming computer! All skus are from NCIX.com, which is a very reputable online seller up here in Canada. It took a little while to arrive, but everything seems to be working perfectly! Thanks UPS! For real this time!
After taxes, the entire rig cost me $1528, however, I still have $100 in mail-in rebates to claim, which I hope to eventually get back (yeah right)! That’s not too bad since this is a complete system with awesome peripherals (LCD monitor and overboard keyboard/mouse combo) Were you to drop those items, you could get it for just over $1000; and probably cheaper in the United States from Newegg.
I can’t comment on performance since the NDA is still up, however, if you’ve seen the minimum specs, you’ll realize that these are way beyond them, so I’m sure you can put two and two together (it equals four btw). Fear not! My computer performance guide is ready to publish as soon as the NDA drops, so make sure to come back if you’re interested.
I’m finally able to put my last computer upgrade adventure behind me…

I bought a 2.53 Dual Core, a 500G HD with only 16 megs of cache, an eVga 9800, a 600W PS with the exact same case, a less robust MB that’s quite nice to OC, same DVD drive, no monitor, mouse or keyboard and 4 gigs of 1066 for $650.
I downloaded the Crysis demo last night and ran it on my old NEC Multisync at full settings at 1280×1024 and it was unfreakingbelievable.
WAR overkill, to be sure.

It’s definitely overkill, but I wanted to ensure I had a future-proofed PC for some time to come. I bought my last “new” computer in 2004 and went with an AGP motherboard when PCI-E was just starting to gain popularity. Big mistake, because it totally limited my upgrade options once AGP was phased out (even though I hear the Radeon 3850 512MB is actually pretty decent).
I went with the SLI mobo just in case SLI actually becomes a decent upgrade option in the future for my gaming needs. Currently, the single 9800GTX should do the trick (OC’d with RivaTuner on more demanding games).

BTW - this case is HIGHLY recommended if you plan to OC anything. I had the fans on high last night and it felt like I was sitting beside an air conditioner!

Nice rig, I am ATI man myself… HD 4870! Any tips or advice you got about building a rig would be great. I am building my first early next month for this game called “Warhammer Online” that’s suppose to usher in the second coming or somthing like that.

The case is freaking beautiful. No doubt about that. Newegg has them on sale for $80 after rebate. Highly recommended to any US builders! The build quality is unlike any case I’ve ever had before. Just… creamy.

Very nice. I may have to do a similar article as my computer is pretty new. I went the easy route with a Dell. My favorite part about my system is I opted for the Core 2 Quad Q9450… could not resist 4 cores. What are you doing OS wise?
By Werit on Aug 1, 2008
I’m using XP 32-bit. I would have had to spend another $150 for Vista 64 and an additional 2GB of RAM, but there aren’t any DX10 games that interest me these days. It’s a quick and cheap upgrade if I want to do it in the future though.
By Snafzg on Aug 1, 2008
Excellent build!
Its very similar to mine. I haven’t found anything I can’t play with full settings yet.

Makes sense. I have Vista and no DX10 games I am playing right now.
Oh, I have obtained permission to get the monitor
By Werit on Aug 1, 2008
Gratz! You won’t be disappointed!
And that’s a savage heatsink, Vort!
By Snafzg on Aug 1, 2008
Damnit, Vort. I was perfectly happy with my ratty ass cabling and now I’m looking at it and it’s making me sad.
Damn you, I say.
By Maolrubha on Aug 1, 2008
Sweet! Nice PC. It’s actually a lot like mine (except I have the older e6850 3ghz processor and 680SLI motherboard)
The price of the 9800gtx is dropping like a rock since I bought mine for $359, so I’m thinking a second one at some point. With two, not only will I be able to play WAR at full settings, i’ll be able to record it at full resolution and sound with FRAPS at the same time and still keep the frames high
By Knash on Aug 1, 2008
Yeah, with the GTX+ models coming onto the scene at about $250, the vanilla GTXs are indeed dropping. I got mine for $199.99 after rebate (barring I actually receive cheque).
Then again, with the 177.xxx drivers, apparently the 9800GTX has seen a significant boost in performance. So much so that Nvidia is internally calling it a GTX+…

Sigh, XFX. Made for gamers, by gamers. Sadly, gamers suck at making computer hardware. Good luck with it, but be forewarned, their tech support is about clueless.
Otherwise, great rig.
By heartless_ on Aug 1, 2008
I don’t have any complaints about my older XFX card. It was actually quite nice for a while but time caught up with it and then moved ahead.
One company I’ll never buy from again is Sapphire (they make ATI cards). My old 9800Pro broke down 3 days after the warranty expired and they wouldn’t do anything for me. Laaaame!
By Snafzg on Aug 1, 2008
Congrats on the new rig!
By Ryver on Aug 1, 2008
Make sure you have a can of compressed air beside your case. I find I have to give it a dust-off about once a week. The amount of air the 20cm fan moves means a LOT of dust collects in the case. Rest of the system looks awesome. Enjoy the gaming goodness!

Your new PCs specs are under NDA also? Sheesh, talk about an overzealous cling to a beta for a game that will be out in 2 months.
By elzon on Aug 3, 2008
Sigh @ Elzon. If you actually read his post before commenting you would have realized that he is unable to post about how well the game runs with his new computer (due to NDA)
The WHOLE POINT of this post was to give us the specs of his new machine.
By Koroh on Aug 4, 2008
@Koroh - Exactly.
I can tell you my old system specs and my new ones, but I can’t tell you how they perform in game due to the NDA. Once that’s lifted, I will press PUBLISH on my “Build a WAR PC” guide.
Hopefully, you can wait until then!
By Snafzg on Aug 4, 2008
Im pretty happy with NCIX.COM I’ve built my last 3 PC’s and a few for friends from parts ordered there. Sometimes difficult to deal with warranty/returns especially if you cant get to the store in-person.
Currently waiting for that new chipset and CPU by Intel with the new memory bus and controller.
By Crode on Aug 4, 2008
I checked the prices on Newegg, and your right, its a lot cheaper. $1,254 after tax. plus i added some speakers to the list. and id still have $155 of mail in rebates.
