Thank you, UPS!
July 30, 2008 – 8:56 am
UPDATE: My package arrived at 2:00pm on July 31 and everything was in tip top shape! Hooray! Below are my original frustrations:
Thanks for receiving my package in your distribution center two days ago and then only shipping it out this morning at 3:40AM, when it was supposed to actually arrive today. Thanks for rescheduling the delivery date to tomorrow instead and not allowing me to change the delivery address to my workplace until you make at least one failed delivery attempt first. Thanks for not allowing me to specify a delivery time or range either. Now I must arrange for someone to hang out at my house all day. Thanks for taking 7 full days to deliver my new computer when you originally quoted me at 1-6 days.
Thanks again. You’re the bestest!
All will be forgiven if everything arrives intact and perfectly functional, otherwise, I may just cry a little that this intimate weekend I planned to spend with WAR won’t work out as planned. My wife is out of town for four days and I need to capitalize on it!

I have similar problemms with UPS in my area (Western WI) and when they do finally get the package to me it is late afternoon a day or two after it was originally supposed to arrive.
I have a lot better experience with FedEx, unfortunately I am cheap and use the cheapest shipping I can 99% of the time, lol.

These are basically my exact thoughts whenever I’m waiting for a package.

Hah, yeah, I should have paid for the Purolator air (1-3 days), but it was $136 for delivery, which is a bit steep considering UPS ground was $43 for 1-6. Three times the price, but it would have arrived at least three times sooner. At least with Purolator you can pick up your package if there is a failed delivery attempt on the first day.

Nothing like the wait for a new computer.
What are the specs on that bad boy?
By Werit on Jul 30, 2008
I wanted to write a post about it, but not until I actually have it in my hands and working properly because I had really bad luck last time when I got very excited then very let down when the parts were defective!

God, do I hate UPS. FedEX all the way. Good luck, man. I’m rootin’ for you.

Arrgh, good luck

I hate UPS with a passion. FedEx is so much better.
The same thing happens to me that just happened to you when it comes to getting computer equipment via UPS. Unfortunately, here is what I usually do. When the package is not delivered, I call UPS up and make arrangements for me to go to their distribution facility and pick up the package after work. UPS has a distribution facility about 15 minutes from my house.
I despise UPS. But not as much as Comcast. I loathe Comcast. Ok, now I’m pissed off. Thanks.

@Singlemalt - I called UPS earlier in the week to ask if they would change my delivery address and they said they couldn’t until they made one failed delivery attempt first. I then asked if I could just pick it up instead and they said the same thing…
Talk about a waste of everyone’s time imho! Why pay your driver for a guaranteed failed delivery and make me wait one more day to get my package? It makes no sense.
By Snafzg on Jul 30, 2008
Yeah, it takes at least one failed delivery in order to pick it up yourself.
On the plus side, the people who work at UPS are so friendly and helpful when you deal with them in person! /sarcasm.
By singlemalt on Jul 30, 2008
Oh the stories I could tell about UPS and fedex. I deal with freight all day long and go to lunch with representatives of about 5 different freight companies often.
Here are some tidbits:
1. UPS has no problems losing the items IN your package and replacing them with whatever is laying around. (I was shipped a small box of about 50 hose couplings, it arrived with 20 computer hard drives and no couplings. I know the person who shipment them to me and he has no hard drives in his warehouse. My UPS driver even admitted they do this often.)
2. UPS is incredibly abusive with any package you give them, think Ace Ventura. It wasn’t a joke.
3. Wearing blue underwear will get you sent home if you drive for UPS.
4. To actually talk to a person at UPS dial their customer support number and press 0 # 0 # 0 # (it might be 0 * 0 * 0 *).

Sarcasm crits you for 5k
Stuff that you don’t care that much about are never later, like a new book for a course you will have in a month. When it’s something like your new computer that will replace ye old 486 it take waaay longer. I got a friend who had to wait like two months longer for his new because of some shipping errors.

I *just* put in my New-Warhammer-Rig created from Newegg-Sale-Stuff Order.
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz 3MB L2 Cache
EVGA 512-P3-N861-AR 9600GT 512M
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
Meh. For $650, it’s a nice rig! Much better than my Turion64 ATI x700 WoW laptop!
Living in Las Vegas, I get things Next Day (for free) from Newegg. Free rush delivery because I used the deferred payments option. (Thank you, free money!)
I guess I’m probably bragging a bit.
<3 Newegg
I’ll light a candle for your UPS delivery.

I have a pretty good system, but all this talk makes me want to splurge on a new video card…
By Sithlet on Jul 30, 2008
Your package did not leave the building at 03:40am. You package got scanned at that time letting you know it was going out for delivery that day. When have you seen a UPS person delivering packages at 4, 5, or even 6am? Never. Idiots like you people need to stop complaining.
And your mad at UPS because you want to change the address? Shouldn’t you have done this just days before the item was shipped? How is this a UPS problem?
And you want us to deliver it when you want it? Give me a break man. If that was the case, drivers would be skipping all over town and never getting anything done. The drivers have a route and do the route the same everyday.
And I guess it’s also our fault that we want someone to sign for your package. I bet if we just left it at your door and someone stole it, it would be our fault to, right?
Get off your high horse and stop being a little bitch.

Wooooooooah, touchy!
1) My package was scanned at 3:40AM in Concord, ON, which is about 16 hours drive away, so it doesn’t change the fact that it was delivered/scanned on the day it was supposed to actually be here.
2) I didn’t think changing the address would be such a big deal. All it takes is a quick call or system update on their part. I worked in retail for over 6 years, dealing with deliveries extensively and it was no skin off my back to change someone’s address… It’s called customer service.
3) I’m cool with a route and understand you could never specifically target a time, but perhaps doing one side of the city in the AM and the other side in the PM would allow for a bit easier coordination. Also, no deliveries after 5pm is kind of lame. I’m not saying the drivers should work extra long shifts, but why not run deliveries from 10-6 or 11-7 to accommodate people who work day shifts? Or you know, have one shift running from 9-5 and another part-time crew from 5-9?
4) Absolutely no problem about having someone sign for my package, in fact, I’d prefer it. I wasn’t complaining about someone needing to be there to sign it, merely that someone had to be there because they wouldn’t change the delivery address for me.
I paid $40+ for delivery… you might think that makes me a bitch, but I think it makes me a customer, and while you shouldn’t have to bend over backwards for me, there should be a little wiggle room for accommodation.
I guess, as a driver, you get paid regardless if someone accepts the package or not, however, from a business and customer’s perspective, purposefully completing a failed delivery attempt when it could have been avoided days before the delivery actually took place, seems like a ridiculous waste of time.
I called three days ago and was told there was nothing they could do. That’s why I’m bitching.

If the hub is 16 hours away. Is there maybe another hub they have to deliver to? It would seem somewhat bogus for a driver to driver 32 hours total.
By J on Jul 30, 2008
Strangely enough, I ordered it from Vancouver, BC and it traveled THROUGH my city (6 hours E of the Manitoba border on the Trans Canada Highway) to get to Concord, ON (which is 16 hours E of me), only to have to come all the way back west.
It doesn’t seem overly efficient to me either…

I have never heard such whiners in my life…..turn away from your keyboard, go outside and do something worthwhile, like exercise something other than your fingers, wit, and tear ducts. GET A LIFE. A few things you should know about your delivery…..if you leave something on your door asking UPS to leave it and you SIGN it….guess what genius.
By Tired of Whiners on Jul 30, 2008
Post your tracking number and I will be glad to look at it and tell you what happened. Got a name of the person you talked to that would not allow you to change your address? Give me that as well.
By UPS Employee on Jul 30, 2008
@Tired of Whiners - If I signed a note on my door asking them to leave it on my front steps, they would? That’s not very smart considering I live on a busy street and thousands of dollars of computer parts wouldn’t last very long methinks.
@UPS Employee - Given the somewhat offensive comment from the another UPS employee in this post, I think I’ll wait for everything to arrive before I give out any information on my package. My sister is going to hang out and wait for the delivery to arrive tomorrow, so I’m hoping for the best.
This thread wasn’t meant as a diss against any of the delivery people btw. I just think the head office policy of not being able to change anything until one delivery attempt has failed is ridiculous.
By Snafzg on Jul 30, 2008
I just don’t like when people complain about things they know nothing about. I get people calling up the driver came by my house and I wasn’t there, tell him to come back.
It’s like wtf, you knew it was coming, you knew you needed to sign for it, so no. Now, some drivers will go back if they are not really busy, but most of them work all day and just don’t have time.
By J on Jul 31, 2008
As a 25 year employee and the last 10 is Sales, I can tell you that you can change and address at anytime during the process….however, the actual change can not be made until thepackage hits the preload (destination center for the orginal address). That center will stop the package and re-address. Yes it does get through sometimes as an aveage sized center may run 10K packages through. As for leaving the package, it should be out of site from the road, out fo the weather and where the customer will find it. That is the criteria for Driver Release. Hope it helps.
By UPS Employee on Aug 1, 2008
Well, after some delay, I’m happy to report that everything arrived and is in fine working order!
I have updated the original post!
By Snafzg on Aug 1, 2008
OKAY GUYS- UPS ROCKS FEDEX STINKS, HERES WHY….UPS WILL REDIRECT THE PACKAGE FOR FREE, AFTER ONE FAILED DELIVERY AT THE ORIGINAL DESTINATION. IF THIS IS NOT OKAY THEN YOU CAN CALL THE # ON THE SLIP THEY LEAVE AT YOUR DOOR AND YOU CAN ARRANGE TO PICK IT UP AT THE HUB THE SAME DAY AFTER 8PM. IF YOU LIVE TO FAR AWAY, SORRY STOP WHINING. UPS CANT AFFORD TO HAV A HUB ON EVERY CORNER….JUST MOVE THEN. FEDEX WILL NOT LET YOU CHANGE THE ADDRESS OR PICK IT UP UNTIL THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED 3 DELIVERIES. IF YOU WANT IT YOU HAVE TO CHASE THE DRIVER DOWN. SOMETIMES IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO GET TO KNOW YOUR UPS DRIVER THEY WILL ( ONLY IF YOU ARE A NICE PERSON) GIVE YOU THERE CELL # AND YOU CAN CALL THEM. BE A PLEASANT PERSON AND LIFE WONT BE SO DIFFICULT. IF YOU ARE NASTY NO ONE WILL WANT TO PLAY WITH YOU.

Good to know I’m not the only one that feels this way about UPS!
I’m supposed to received a package worth a lot of money next day air at 8:30 am. When I didn’t get it I tracked it down and it said “DELAYED FOR SECURITY REASONS BEYOND UPS CONTROL”.I’m cool with that since that’s understandable given the Setp. 11 issues. They finally released it and supposedly out for delivery, but then it didn’t get delivered due to ” UNABLE TO ACCESS RESIDENT/NEED SECURITY ACCESS CODE ” - Well, that would be ok if we have a security gate. WE DON’T HAVE A SECURITY! I live in an open road in a single family home where the only security you’ll find are the ad signs on the lawn of the houses. I called them and asked about the status and notified them that they were full of SH@#! They said that they will get back with me to track it down! Ofcourse that went on for 2 days!
So I did my own tracking to pin point exactly just what the hell happened. They released it, they scanned it for delivery, but somehow the driver must have had a sudden urge for an early happy hour, perhaps a sport’s bar’s gello bikini contest right down the road from my house was of more importance than my package! I don’t know!
Whatever the case maybe, I called them back, the agent said that they couldn’t get in my neighborhood again..I made sure that they had the right address..THEY DO! Again I said ” THERE IS NO F—–N SECURITY OR GATE! ” Then a supervisor went on the line and said, they apologized, that that was just a statement they had to enter in the system when a delivery is not delivered!..Well…F@##! Isn’t that DISHONESTY!!! THAT’S LYING!!! Why bullshit..just state the truth that it wasn’t delivered!!! They put me on hold..came back on..then I said “You lost the damn package, didn’t you!” Which ofcourse I don’t get cause, in order for it to be in the tracking that it’s in route for delivery, they had to scan the package for the address..so somewhere along his route he lost the package. They put me on hold again then said, “well, samantha it seemed that we have misplaced your package!” NO SH@#! YOU THINK?! They said that since they dropped the ball that they will look for it and deliver it and leave it in my front door!!!
I’m still waiting for it?!!!!
“WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU? FU@#! I DON’T KNOW BUT I KNOW WHAT I’D LIKE TO DO TO BROWN!!”
