Subscribe to DAOC = Get into WAR Beta?
July 25, 2008 – 1:44 pmInteresting find in my quick browse over at the VN Boards this afternoon! One of the forum members sent Jeff Hickman an email about Dark Age of Camelot players and Warhammer Online beta and actually got a response:
Hey,
As a long time DAoC player and beta tester I was wondering if/when current DAoC players will get a chance to get into the WAR beta?
Thanks!

Jeff’s reply:We are working to give all DAoC players access to our beta. I do not have exact dates for this yet, but keep your eyes open for an announcement or message to the current DAOC players about this.
-Jeff
No official word has been given, and this could be a hoax, but I doubt it. It makes sense for Mythic to cross-promote their products. It kind of harkens back to my EA Pass pitch, where people can pay one monthly fee to play all EA MMORPGs (similar to Sony Station).
One would assume this invite will only be extended to active DAOC subscribers (he does say “current” in his response), so you may want to dust off that old account just in case. Worst case scenario, you can get quick taste of RvR 1.0 before WAR tramples onto the scene this fall.
Keep your eye on that thread! Chances are good that Mark will eventually drop in to confirm or deny.

Its already part of the beta invite system. Subscribers to DAoC, that match their DAoC account to their beta account, have a better chance of getting. It was mentioned back then that most likely DAoC subscribers would get a spot in open beta.

I have been toying around with trying DAoC. What is keeping from it is it looks like you need to level up (PvE) before getting into the RvR fun.

Technically, there are battlegrounds in DAOC for each level bracket (1-4, 5-9, etc.) so you could participate in RvR right off the bat, however, I don’t think it has the kind of population to support this anymore.
Certain battlegrounds are (or at least were) definitely hot spots though (21-24, 35-39, etc.) where people would take a breather from PvE to RvR. Then again, most of your competition in these hot spots will be twinks (maxed out gear).
@heartless - It was common knowledge that DAOC was definitely a “toof” in your favour, however, I don’t think we ever received confirmation of every current DAOC player being let in. Maybe I just wasn’t aware.

Oh, good idea on their part. They know the DaoC players will have an interest in RvR and some experience at it.

I will be interested to see how many of the hardcore Camelot followers (those who have been playing for years) will make the move to WAR.
I sure hope that I am on the same side of those that do.

Hmm, I have been thinking of trying it out. See the “roots of WAR” for myself, so to speak. If I can get a WAR beta spot then I’m sure to test it

Snafzg, I need to keep better notes, but it was fairly hinted at that it was a possibility at some point. I know it was and I’m never wrong…

About DAoC:
If anyone was interested in going back, as I did not too long ago, there is an issue to tackle before even getting into leveling: server type. Classic servers are the way to go. They remove most of what ruined DAoC and are really the only servers a new player can hope to catch up on.
Once on a classic server a player has to level to 50, via PvE or RvR. PvE is without a doubt the fastest way. However, you can PvE level in the RvR battlegrounds which offers the side activity of assaulting/defending the battleground castle or enjoying open RvR, or possibly getting ganked
After level 50 is achieved, then it is a RvR “mini-grind” to hit Realm Rank 5, which is a meta-level 51. At RR5 characters get a stat boost and are mostly considered to have realm rank abilities that let them compete.
Supposedly, this takes about a couple months and most people actually stop PvE leveling at 49 to gain Realm Ranks in the level 49 battleground instead of getting slaughtered in the level 50 RvR Frontier zones and keep sieges.

I don’t recommend starting up a DAOC subscription in hopes of getting an invite to WAR. We’re in the short strokes before the open beta invites go out, and I’d wager the last of the closed beta invites are already sent (Guild Beta and the Boom promotion).
September dates are being splashed around for release and the fact that they announced the cut of 4 cities and 4 classes leads me to believe the game WILL be released in September.
September release means August open beta. August open beta means less than a month (at most) left in closed beta…
Unless you don’t have the CE preordered, in which case you won’t play until September without a beta invite.

Thanks for the additions heartless_ and Koroh!
Any details on the Origins servers?

Maybe the invites Jeff is referring to here are for all current DAoC players to receive an invite into OPEN beta. Notice he doesn’t specify which beta he is talking about in his reply, he simply says “our beta.” Just my two cents, reactivating my DAoC account now just in case as I forgot to pre-order my CE war
