Know Your Gods - Slaanesh

Part Six of Ten - Know Your Gods is an original Warhammer Online lore series by Cicadymn (Sam).

After a long and dreary day of battle I know what you’re thinking… You just want to relax. So much of your day has been dedicated to brutally slaughtering your opponents. Receiving your own wounds can be a very unpleasant and unwanted experience, but what if you could go into battle and actually enjoy the pain? What if, when you came home, you experienced immeasurable pleasure? How would that make you feel? Pretty good, I’m assuming! If forfeiting a life of agony and pain for one of pleasure and joy is something you’re into, you may just want to take a good look at Slaanesh. Lets get this out of the way first. Slaanesh isn’t technically a man or a woman, but one of those fancy hermaphrodites you’ve heard so much about. It is said that Slaanesh has taken the best of both genders, and perfected them. You don’t have to fear for your sexuality while in his presence, because Slaanesh transforms into whatever brings you the most pleasure. His form as it appears to you is utterly perfect and beyond description. Be careful though, it is said that if you gaze upon him it means you forfeit your very soul to him. You Pious warrior-priests better watch out!

If you think Slaanesh is for you, keep in mind a few of the things his followers are often treated to. After a short period of time they become bored with simple tasks and tiresome items. Even sounds and colors are not immune from being shunned by followers of Slaanesh. Artists of all sorts are drawn to Slaanesh, as after a short while with him as their muse, they will create paintings which can entrance and terrify all those who gaze upon them. Now, just because Slaanesh is all about pleasure and new experiences doesn’t mean that there isn’t any combat involved. Slaanesh is particularly fond of gladiatorial games, as long as they are held with gladiators who are refined and strong enough to move away from the brutish brawling that the followers of Khorne so greatly adore. Even in defeat, the followers of Slaanesh are happy, as they see defeat as a new and exciting experience to take part in. Although winning is always their goal, you can say that Slaanesh’s followers don’t mind a good beating quite as much as others may.

So what is in it for all you dedicated Slaanesh fans? Aside from pleasure in everything you do, there is the popular option of your body changing in various helpful ways, such as the addition of arms, or claws, often crab-like in  nature. New powerful organs can be added to increase the pitch and volume of your screams, causing those that stand in your path to falter or fall to their knees in pain as you relish in the pleasure of victory. Followers of Slaanesh may find it easier to convert others as the promise of pain and joy are often times more appealing to those you come in contact with, allowing for even the strongest mind to be corrupted.

It is worth noting that Slaanesh is the youngest and least powerful of all the Chaos gods. But that by no means counts him out. While he can’t hold his own against any of the other gods, his alliance in certain aspects may be more then enough many times to give them the sway and clout that they need. This power of influence is a strength that Slaanesh holds high against the other Gods in the Warhammer universe.
