Forum Watch (June 3 - June 10, 2008)

That’s Right! It’s that time again! I present to thee noble squire, thine legendary Forum Watch! Brought to you once again by the ever violent, thegreenskin.com! Not to mention your devishly handsome host, me! Cicadymn. Now without anymore Ye Olde English lets get to the action! This week I climbed the interwebz searching for threads that tickled my fancy, and although they don’t come out as 100% threads or WAR, they’re something entertaining and semi-related to say the least! We’ve got new sites to cehck out, more futuristic plans, and threads ranging from what ifs to will dos! Before I go however I want to throw my hat in the ring on this WHA Class Poll Controversy. Honestly! Why is this a big deal?! Surely everyone understands that 3k people out of 700k+ signed up and even more likely upon launch can’t accurately predict how they population is going to go! Keep your clothes on because WAR’s population isn’t going to defined well until sometime after launch. No sense in getting your knickers in a twist! On that note however: Stay Ready! WAR is coming.
Of course it’s not official numbers, but it’s the best we’ve got!
- So, have you ever wondered what everyone else is wanting to play? It’s hard I know. I can hardly keep my mind made up on one class before I see just a little bit more of another and practically start from scratch in my unreasonable dedication! But anyways, if you haven’t signed up for Warhammer Alliance yet, go do it and be a part of this poll! Lets get the best survey that we as a community can manage. Stop reading! Go! Right now! I’ll wait…
Forget State of the Union, it’s time for some State of the Healers!
- Man the title to my link just isn’t catchy. Oh, and see! I told you I’d wait for you to finish taking that poll. But anyways, lets move on to our next thread. Here we find another skeptical victim who, in his lack of perspective, thinks that healers just wont be anywhere in the game. Which couldn’t be further from the truth! I’ve never seen such a dedication to players wanting to roll tank/healing classes before. Then again we’re just in beta, whether that turns into players actually playing like that, remains to be seen. But I have a good feeling about it.
A dip into the pool of resistances is quickly clouded by fog
- So yea, we don’t know much about how resistances are going to play in WAR, or to what extent we’ll need them, or how they will affect classes in general! Damage mitigation? Damage avoidance? Cut that spell damage in half? We just don’t know yet! I’m sure with Open beta coming ever closer to opening we’ll get more information, though worst case scenario we’ll always find out in the open beta!
- So what is your ideal group make up? A single male surrounded by the less atrocious looking females of the game? What if those females were Witch Elves? I bet you’d think twice then! Anyways, come on over and Theoryhammer what your personal favorite group make up would be!
Alright, I’ll burn down your house….next patch
- So we all know Housing wont be in upon launch. And while we get a little joy of guild taverns, such pleasures may lead us on the road to wanting more! If the system works out it would be great to see player houses added into the game eventually. As DAoC players know they did add player housing in eventually for free! So it’s all very well possible. Although I’m sure I speak for most players by saying we’d rather launch without them than suffer another delay!
Poshy Elves, Big Orcs, Old Humans, and Hairy Dwarves
- Alright, I can’t help it! I know we only have about a 30% chance of getting character growth at launch but these threads are just too much fun in my opinion. It’s still a feature I desperately hope makes it in and something we still have relatively little information on. Leaving the bulk of these sorts of threads, to Theoryhammering.
VN Boards, Oh yea. They went there
- Looks like the boys over in the WAR section of VN Boards are already stirring up some controversy. I found it quite humorous myself but if you’re a die hard fanboi for any MMO I’m sure you’ll have an opinion on the ToK/LotRO Deeds system that WoW is looking to implement in WotLK. Man…That was a lot of abbreviations. Stop on over and throw your hat in the ring!
In the words of Mark Jacobs “Afraid of AoC, LOL”
- Of course there is a lot of rivalry among MMO players, it’s part of the gaming experience, but, when it gets to the point that other games are being mocked in beta forums it’s time to put the boot down. And that’s a promise you better believe Mythic isn’t scared to follow up on. Head on over to VN Board’s WAR section get the whole story.
- What do you think WAR would be like without Paul, Mark, or Jeff? Aside from me using their first names like I actually know the trio, it seems to be that people agree there just would be a certain spark would be missing. Sure it would still get a lot of attention, but the amount of attention and the admiration the fans have for the company, might just be a little bit different.
Ok, so this TECHNICALLY is still about WAR
- But I just can’t help it when it comes to 40k! Lets go through the motions. You’re drooling in anticipation and anxiety waiting to get into beta. You’ve exhausted the last bit of play time from your current MMO of choice and you just can’t bring yourself to enter another territory control in a desert industrial environment (see what I did there?) What do you do..WHAT DO YOU DO! 40k Thats what you do! While this isn’t he most Warhammer Fantasy related post it’s still another great thread to share some insights on how you feel about waiting and what other avenues you’re exploring while you wait. Oh, and if any 40k nuts want to help a Cicadymn out on learning his 40k material/play style and miniatures techniques you know where to find me.
Alright, well it’s not exactly a forum post…
- But you better know it anyways! Waaagh Insider is quickly throwing itself all over the WAR community and if you haven’t been there yet, it’s damn well about time you do! I suggest looking up the interviews with Wrenn of Warhammer Conflict, Keen of the Keen and Graev’s Gaming Blog, and our very own Snafzg! They’re pouring on the Waaaagghhh over there so you better stop by before they get too popular. And don’t forget down the road you’ll be able to brag and say, Yea. I was there when it all started.
Last but not least, a Lion is…OMG A LION! RUN!
- But seriously, the last thread this week comes from Warhammer Conflict discussing the ever prevalent, pet experience. So we’re still missing some information that I’m sure will either come in time, or be experienced thoroughly upon open beta, is exactly how to pets work in WAR? Will we get ToK unlocks for them? If we kill enough do we get a title? A Trophy? I hope so, what do you think? Stop on over and let the know!

Wasn’t it up? What sort of error were you getting? I’ve been able to access it perfectly but I’ve had issues with with people not being able to connect in the past. I asked them to send me a traceroute, which I then forwarded on to my web host and they eventually fixed it.
