Forum Watch (April 1 - April 8, 2008)

April 8, 2008 – 5:57 pm

Forum WatchAlright, 3..2..1.. Lets go! It’s time for another new Forum Watch! Courtesy of thegreenskin.com and your friendly neighborhood Cicadymn. Lets get right to the good stuff. It’s been a busy week again. Players are still reeling over the information regarding the Collectors Edition. Then not to be outdone, the Witch Hunter and Witch Elf came barging onto the scene sporting a brand new mechanic…stealth! It’s been a week of grieving as players abandon hope for a stealth free WAR. Not to mention the comments regarding the potential (and most likely incoming) loss of the character growth system, even if only temporary seems as though we lost a dear friend. But as the members of the community will tell you. Theres no sense in crying over spilt Order blood! Even though we’re upset it’s something we as a community we can overcome and come out stronger in the end for it. Now! Without further adieu, it’s time for..you! The community! Stop on over and see if you were lucky enough to have the thread you’ve worked on all week get chosen. If not then keep trying! And remember: Stay ready, WAR is coming.

In lieu of a tabard, WAR is going with something much cooler

  • This is honestly the first time I’ve ever heard of Guild Crests, the idea of putting them on yourself and your shield (if applicable) just seems pretty awesome to me. Then it was brought up that there would also be a guild Heraldy that can be carried into the battlefield by a designated member, that also sounds awesome. I can’t wait to see how these things come to work in-game. As a proud member of Artillery I am very eager to get out and show my colors and symbols to the masses that I expect will be slaughtered. (Unless you think you can stop us Order, hehe)

Following the influx of gamers into WAR, there is expected to be an influx of QQ in class forums

  • This is a pretty good thread over at Warhammer Alliance. They’re being awesome again and this time in mocking-form. Over here they’re starting to wonder what kind of complaints and all around stupid statements will come from new players who have never really followed WAR, much less learned how to play their class. Stop on over and give them your opinion on what your favorite QQ is going to be.

Kwicksilver is a sad panda

  • In this last thread from Warhammer Alliance we find fears mounting up on one player of the WAR community. To be honest this was the first time I heard about only having a 25% chance to have the character growth system (IE. Black Orcs getting bigger, Dwarf Beards getting longer, etc) in place at the time of launch. That sort of made me a sad panda. However! The boys over at Warhammer Alliance were quick to jump in and dispell the fears. There is still a chance we can get character growth from the git-go, but it sounds to me like it may be implemented in at a future patch. That’s all fine and dandy for me, because I know I wont be the only one leveling a dozen Alts come post-release.

Do the twist! Not just for dancing anymore!

  • Over at WAR-RvR we see some players discussing the “twisting” mechanics for tanks. IE. Knights of the Burning Sun and Chosen. They go a little more in-depth and try to give a good explanation. If you were wanting a little more information on how twisting might work then stop on over and throw your hat in the ring! I know I was needing a little more explanation so it definitely helped me out. Then again…maybe part of me was wanting to see a Chosen and KotBS do the twist…

Is WAR about sneaking in the shadows? Or beating in faces with a sword and gun?

  • So we come again to another thread unhappy about the appearance of stealth in WAR. As in a previous Forum Watch we looked into a thread where a vast majority of voters didn’t think that stealth had a place in WAR. Once again I’ll throw my opinion in. They need to find a method that works, and get it in at release, they can’t end up changing a core mechanic later on. I’ve heard people say that stealth will drain energy over time, so perhaps it could be viable then. That being said, I for one would rather it be left out completely. Do you disagree? You better go tell the boys at WAR-RvR why.

Hey kids! Get out of the pool! Darn marauders always sneak in when I’m not looking

  • So, color me stupid for missing this one, but apparently in WAR there is no diving under water! This came as a bit of a surprise to me but makes sense when you think about it. I just hope that water can at least mitigate some of the damage from falls if not remove it. After all the cliff jumping into water that I did in WoW followed by the same stunt in Tabula Rasa, which of course didn’t allow diving under water, I got to see what my character looked like as a pancake fairly early on.

Now that the cats out of the bag, lets find a way to stick it back in there!

  • Even though that analogy doesn’t really make any sense in regards to the actual post, which is finding alternatives to stealth, I figured it would be a good idea to throw this post in here. I’m sure after reading the above post from WAR-RvR about stealth was a shock to your system, and while you were casually floating across the waters of no diving in WAR you were really racking your brains in an attempt to figure out something else they could use in place of stealth. Well have you got your idea yet? Good! Let them know over at Only-WAR what your perfect plan is and see if we can’t come up with an acceptable alternative to sneaking around behind people.

If I see one more guy running around with an anime character name I think I’m gonna ____!

  • Don’t let the new skin fool you (it did me for a moment) this is still the Warhammer conflict that we know and love. Over here we’ve got a post about names that you absolutely can’t stand to see! Luckily for me, being a destruction player, and Shadow Warriors, being an Order character I’ll have the joy of going out of my way to kill every version of the name Legolas I see. Although, being an Orc, I’m sure I’ll have my fair share of Thralls to want to hurt, very very badly. But before I got into a fit of fury you should stop on over to Warhammer conflict and throw the names you can’t stand to see for everyone to hate together.

Ahh the golden days, how I mis- No I can’t say that, because they were filled with waiting and woe!

  • Alright as we come to a close today I decided to end us on a light note, when did you sign up for the Warhammer Newsletter? I don’t quite remember my exact date, but it was some time towards the end of May of ‘07. Thats right! I’ve only had to endure about a years worth of torturous waiting on Warhammer. I pity those who have been signed up for longer, for the aching they feel in the pit of their Warhammer-free souls must be nigh unbearable…*Ahem* stop in and sound off! I wanna know how long you’ve been suffering in your Warhammer-less world!
