Forum Watch (February 18 - 24, 2008)
February 26, 2008 – 12:03 am
Hey everyone and welcome to the next exciting installment of Forum Watch! I’m your host Cicadymn, and this week we’re going to look into the basis of the game and tons of different posts by the talented members of our community. We’ve got just about everything, more release date speculations, WAR guides, the Tome of Knowledge, and transportation! Come on over and take a look at what your fellow WAR fanatics have to say this week. Stay Ready, WAR is coming.
WAR Community Writing Project. Yea it’s awesome.
- Here’s another example of something in the Warhammer community going horribly horribly right! If you’ve got any writing talent I suggest you hop on over to Warhammerconflict.com and sign up. Looks like they’re getting a collaborative story together written by fans who can well…write! If you think you have the stuff that stories are made out of head on over and see if you can measure up. As of this writing it looks like they’ve got a good 15 writers signed up. I don’t know how many they’re going for, so you better be ready with your best work as an example to get in there!
Some screens show awesome buildings, mediocre environment.
- Gamespy has some new screens that, while many we have seen before, did have a few shots that I haven’t come across. I love the buildings, big hulking colossi in the background. Great detail and such. But the environment still seems to be lacking. Good thing is we’re still in beta and that I’m sure we’ll be getting another graphics update or two before release date. Don’t forget to check out the concept art! That High Elf in high heels makes me think twice about my final solution for the elves…I mean! Final solution to their math homework…yes, math homework.
- It seems like Corbie’s in a bit of a bind. A bind that many players may be facing come release date. What’s the problem? Short answer: Shadow Warriors. Why? Because they’re too damn awesome. The problem is that he, as many other players may find themselves, wanting to play destruction, however his friend that he has MMO’d with for a long time wants to roll a Shadow Hunter. It seems like the two are gonna have a lot of arguing if they are gonna stick together on this one. Many people it seems were hoping for a ranged crossbow using damage dealer instead of the sorceress for the Dark Elves. So will this result in a Night Elf Hunter situation that WoW dealt with for so long? Probably, but there will always be gobs of players wanting to live out their dream of being Legolas. Who are we to say they shouldn’t? Then again, Destruction should be more than happy to take it upon themselves to rid the world of them. After all, we said they could pretend to be Legolas all they want, we never said anything about not killing them with a passion.
Warhammer Guide to life, the universe and anything even semi-related to it
- Did you just recently start learning about WAR? Did your friends finally coax you into reading about it during the downtime in another MMO? Did you kind of like what you saw? That’s how it happened to me. I finally started learning and pieced everything I could together from around the community. If you want to know what WAR is all about, then check out this thread. It just about perfectly sums up what WAR is about and what we’re expecting. Super Ultra Mega WAAAAAAGGGHHHH-flavored Kudos to Morg’th N’Throg from Only-WAR for creating this and making it available for everyone to see. Great work.
Just because it makes no sense, doesn’t mean it makes no sense…wait…
- Here’s a pretty cool thread detailing what races could be added later, and whether or not it’s possible. It seems anyone familiar with Warhammer lore is always begging for Skaven to be added. Color me confused on this whole Lizardmen issue, apparently they’re a super neutral race that doesn’t get involved, but at the same time they were apparently created to destroy chaos? And what’s this I hear about there being a no Lizardmen in Altdorf policy?
Death isn’t the end, it’s merely the beginning, of a ten minute wait
- In this thread we see people discussing the death penalty. No, not for convicts! But for WAR. One poster, (who didn’t state if he was in Beta) said that there will be no corpse runs. Leaving to question how the heck we’ll get from dead to alive and back to what we were doing! Apparently the common belief is that they’ll stack a small debuff on for 10 minutes, you can pay to get rid of it, otherwise you have to deal with it. On death again, the debuff resets to 10 minutes and the percent of stats reduction increases. Did you follow that? Not confirmed. Just the common idea for WAR. Check out the thread to try to understand it better.
Old Tome of Knowledge is new to me!
- Heres a pretty cool video, somehow I overlooked. Giving some info on the Tome of Knowledge. Granted it was posted back in August of ‘07 hopefully all the information is still the same. Pretty cool little video if you have a little bit of time to kill.
Planes, Trains, and Demon Horses?
- So we’ve discussed how you’re going to die in Warhammer, why not discuss how you’re going to get around? In this thread we see members of Only-war debating on what kind of travel there is going to be, whether it’s about mounts, teleportation, trains, or flying to and fro, it seems we’re pretty clueless right now as to how we’re going to be getting places.
Release dates? Here we go again!
- Some more release dates shot in the dark by Amazon and Gamespot. No telling what’s going through their heads. But at least their guesses seem a little more conservative around June rather than the may that was reported last time. All I know is that I wanna pre-order my collectors edition as soon as possible! Lets just hope these sites are a little bit accurate so we’ll see it in june rather than sometime in the fall.
I have a 2,532+ chance to write a New York Times Best Seller than I do of getting in WARs Beta
- This is a funny little post. We’re linked to a guide where someone pulled up a whole bunch of odds and put together a list of things that may have a higher or lower chance of happening to us. Apparently theres a better chance of something going terribly wrong and hurting us in a hundred different ways of us getting into beta. I hope you people that were invited understand now how lucky you are!
