Breaking: BOOM! Studios are a bunch of sellouts!

But in a good way!
Remember that little piece I wrote last week about Warhammer: Forge of War? I mistakenly reported that they were releasing WAR:FoW for free on MySpace, when it was in fact one of their other titles, NORTH WIND. Anyway, 10 days after simultaneously releasing issue #1 in stores and online for free, BOOM! Studios is reporting that they have sold out of the original print and are considering a second run!
“If you want a copy, I would suggest running, not walking, but running to your local comic shop,” said Chip Mosher, Director of Marketing and Sales at BOOM! Studios. “This promotion with MySpace Comic Books has helped us sell through all of our copies of NORTH WIND #1 and has brought new customers into comic stores across the nation. I couldn’t have been happier when Diamond called to tell us that we sold out.”
I appreciate a comic studio taking such a marketing risk and I’m glad it worked out for them. More and more comics are becoming available online these days and you can even buy CD-ROM sets of entire runs of The Amazing Spider-Man. While I much prefer a tangible book in my hands, the comic industry appears to be embracing what many people desire, quite unlike the RIAA: quick, digital, and online access.
To tie this back in with Warhammer and greenskins specifically, Chip Mosher sent me a personal email about the availability of Warhammer 40,000: Blood and Thunder. He even passed me along two preview copies by PDF! Even though it isn’t set in the fantasy realm of Warhammer, Blood and Thunder captures the essence of any-age greenskin perfectly, IMO. Check out an 11-page preview here.
I will be running a contest once the mini-series is complete (about three two months from now). The prize, you ask? How about the entire mini-series run (1-4) of Warhammer 40,000: Blood and Thunder + Warhammer 40,000 #0?!

Heh, thanks! I’m actually going to check for the trade paperback of Forge of War next week. I’ll write my review on this site.
