We of Little Words - The Greenskin

UPDATE: This is supposed to be a dwarf and a goblin, not a viking and a reeeeeeeally tall shaman. My drawing still sucks I guess! :P

Say hello to my second weekly WAR webcomic, titled “We of Little Words.”

Sometimes you don’t need eloquence to talk your way out of a fight. Sometimes you just need the intimidation factor, and a shaman in full WAAAGH! (with his buddies) is definitely intimidating!

This is my first attempt at colour and I definitely think it needs improvement, but it will happen as time goes on. Someone previously mentioned that they really enjoy watching a webcomic launch because things can start out so basic but over time, the artist will come into his or her own style and things will keep getting better and better. That’s my goal!

If you were hoping for a bit more dialogue, I’ll be bringing something fresh to your eyes next week. I wanted to concentrate on some easier concepts to get the ball rolling, and as I become more familiar with the process, the comic will become more “advanced.”

What do you think?

  2. So much better with color!

Now, I’ve got a few problems with this particular strip, so keep in mind, it’s just constructive criticism, I’m not picking on you. :D

    1. Vikings don’t say “Arrrrr!”. He needs to be more viking-like, and just yelling in general, hell, maybe even a Led Zepplin homage could have been put here (Valhalla, I’m coming). Just a little pet peeve, no biggy, especially since it wasn’t the main humor of this particular strip.

    2. Gobbos iz runty an’ small! Dey duzn’t even scare little ‘ummiez, ’specially not da big ‘unz!

    3. Vikings are just pink orcs. This should have resulted in a bloody battle, or a big head-butting match!

Again, just a few things, just wanted to give you a few pointers on greenskin ideology to help out the strip.

Again, nice work on the coloring, it really helped out, your art style is also fairly befitting of the comic, and I see where your humor is coming from and where it is aiming, but it just falls a little short. Greenskins are blunt, but not that blunt. :D

Good luck with the strip, and I can’t wait to see more!

  3. Haha, thanks for the constructive criticism.

I guess my art is pretty bad because that viking is actually supposed to be a Dwarven hammerer! :P

I tried to show off his stuntiness by putting him beside a short gobbo but maybe it would have been more obvious to juxtapose him against a big black orc or something instead.

Unfortunately, that wouldn’t have allowed me to show off the WAAAGH! factor as it’s supposed to be initiated by shammies in WAR Online.

    Confusing… sorry! :P

  4. I too love the color, definitely adds a “zazz” factor. For my tips (I’ve never made a comic myself so I’m no expert):

    1. To make it easier to identify as a dwarf (I had no problem as my mind was thinking war-related races) you could make his beard longer

    2. To really show their height, add the other 3 greenies behind him (maybe even make the orc’s heads go off the top of the picture so you can only see their chests to definitely show the difference).

    Looking great so far!

  6. Heh, that might have been my bad. I re-read and saw Beowulf this weekend, so I guess I have vikings on the brain.

But yes, I kind of assumed you made a bad move and made a viking talking to a tall goblin. I think it would have been a better idea to draw them at a lower position in the frame, so as to give them the appearance of being small, that way you wouldn’t have to rely on the gobbo as a reference point. That could have even turn into a joke if they were in fact really tall, but appeared short in the first frame.

Anyways, don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s still pretty good.

  8. Personally, I loved it and find it completely fitting. Not just in Warhammer but in MMOs with factions in generals how people get freaked out over small emotes or certain small movements you make with your characters. As others have already stated, adding color really brings it to life. /support.

  9. Hey looks good. Colour goes along way as I discovered with my comic. I was also a bit confused with the Viking and tall shaman.

Just remember the Greenskins have Orc Shamans so you can use those in your comic

Looking forward to the next one

  10. Hey, looks great in colour! Really boosts the page, even without heavy dialogue suddenly the strip seems much “fuller”. I think everyone will enjoy watching this strip and your talents mature while we wait for WAR. Nice job.
