A Great Interview with Josh Drescher
November 21, 2007 – 8:32 pm
Steven Crews over at The MMO Gamer recently posted a great interview with Josh Drescher, senior designer and associate producer for WAR. Much of the interview was captured in the podcast, however, some gems were missing, but transcribed throughout the article.
Josh answers many questions about the beta stoppage, delayed release date, world and instanced PvP, the tabletop vs. MMORPG experience, designing for the hardcore vs. casual gamer, class balance, special ruleset servers, WAR vs. WoW comparisons, and much more!
It’s definitely worth a gander if you consider yourself a craver of everything WAR!

I enjoy when people are honest and admit they would like money no matter how it comes and that WoW players will play WAR as well. It was one of the better reads dealing with WAR in quite some time.

Having read the interview I do appreciate the information we’re still being given whether it’s from an interview, newsletter, or one of the weekly Beta updates. With the Beta shutdown it’s good to see they still want to stay in touch with their fan base.

If I had to toss out random numbers (and I will) I’d guess that a good… %40 of WoW players will at one time or another end up subscribing to WAR, spiteful money or not. I no longer play WoW, but I did really enjoy it for the two years and change that I did. I’m ready for something new (but strangely familiar) anytime now, looks like WAR will do the trick.

@All - One thing you can’t knock Mythic for is their community involvement. Even in the early days of DAOC, they had a strong relationship with their player base and took great strides in keeping them in the development loop. More than any other MMORPG company I’ve seen.
People like Sanya Thomas (ex-Mythic employee), Josh Drescher, and Paul Barnett really connect with their gamers, and I hope they keep it up!
